Coffee anyone?

Good evening everyone!

こんばんは皆様!

Finally I got the new blog site for Kanayamayaki!

From October 30~November 4, we started firing the 5 chamber kiln.

First thing in the morning we put charcoal in the 2nd chamber, as you can see on the photo below the chamber reached the target temperature for putting charcoal inside. The ceramics are also glowing hot during this process.

Second chamber’s charcoal hole.

The photo below shows how we put the charcoal inside each charcoal ports.

One person crushes the charcoal into the ideal size for each layer, and another person puts the charcoal inside using a very long shovel. We call it Juno.

We are 6 members when putting charcoal, but sometimes only 3-4 people put charcoal. It depends on the availability of the staff.

Usually during firing time we listen to the radio to pass the time, but this is the first time I saw this boom box! Very cool and it still works!

Also today was a beautiful day. Clear skies and cool wind, very helpful during high temperature firing and charcoal time.

I am currently assisting Kamamoto (Matsumiya sensei), so I am now working at the Jiggering machine studio.

In the gallery we are now selling coffee to the customers! So if you want a nice cup of coffee during this cold season you can ask any of our staff. You can also choose what kind of cup or chawan to use. :)

When you visit let’s have a nice cup of coffee with cookies to go with it!

That’s it! I hope to see you guys here in Kanayama!

Stay warm!
